Please see Bishop Bradley’s statement on today’s release of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, “Gaudete et Exsultate (Rejoice and Be Glad): On the Call to Holiness in Today’s World.” In his statement Bishop Bradley invites all clergy and lay people to prayerfully read the Holy Father’s third Apostolic Exhortation which is particularly timely in regards to Diocesan priorities and the Diocesan Pastoral Plan. Thank you for your assistance and for sharing this with your parishioners on your Parish communication channels.
Collaborating for a Shared Vision of the Future Join Bishop Bradley as he shares an update on the Diocesan Pastoral Plan and the new Diocesan Priorities; and invites reflection on our role in the shared vision for the future of the Diocese of Kalamazoo. The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has invited dioceses, parishes and communities to join with him in participating in the initiative entitled 24 Hours for the Lord. This program is aimed at placing the Sacrament of Reconciliation once again at the center of the pastoral activity of the Church. Immaculate Conception in Three Rivers will be holding a two day Lenten Adoration on Friday, March 9 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
As we are all well aware, the recent outbreak of a particularly virulent strain of the flu has resulted in a record number of people admitted to the hospital, numerous school closings, and, in some very sad cases, the deaths of individuals who contracted it. Concerns have been raised regarding the reception of Holy Communion and other contact during the Sacred Liturgy that could potentially transmit the flu virus or other contagious diseases.
Please visit the Diocesan website, www.diokzoo.org, for Lenten resources including Bishop Bradley’s Lenten column in The Good News, links to Pope Francis’ Lenten message and more information on the Diocese’s “24 Hours for the Lord” on March 9 and 10th offering dedicated times for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
If the area schools are canceled all parish activities, including weekday Mass, will be canceled. The office will close as well. If we get a storm on the weekend, Fr. Richard will contact the sheriff’s department to decide whether to cancel Masses. We will post cancellations on WNDU Channel 16. You can also access closing online at http://www.wndu.com/closings. If cancellations are not posted please use good judgment.
Over the last weeks we were notified of the closing of the Washington D.C. Youth Works site. As this was where our High School youth were going, we have had to change the location to Toronto, Canada. Dates remain the same. As this has raised many questions and concerns, Fr. Richard asks that all involved attend a 4:30 p.m. meeting on January 21 at Holy Family Church, Decatur.
