We are a Christian community in Decatur, Michigan called to be holy as Jesus is holy and to help one another say yes to His Call. We are called to share in His mission and to bring about the Kingdom of God in our midst by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus through Faith, Education, and Example. Therefore we Pledge: · To model our Parish Community after that of the Holy Family and to be FAMILY to our members, our town, our church, our country; · To strive after holiness of life within the vocation to which each of us is called by sharing our gifts and talents; · To have a deep respect for the individual person and help one another grow by providing an atmosphere of hospitality, love and service to all within our outreach, especially the poor and the needy; · To seek and work for peace, justice and equality by continually relating the Gospel message to social concerns. We make this pledge in confidence that the Lord will assist us and bless us as we strive to realize our vision.
Our humble community began in 1855 when Fr. Baroux, a pioneer missionary, came to Decatur to gather Catholic families and say the first Mass in a local home.
We outgrew our facilities many times until the present church was completed and dedicated on May, 27, 1962. A deep faith and love for their God was handed down from generation to generation. This enabled them to accomplish all they did and to continue to carry out the mission of making God known and loved by the people of Decatur and the surrounding area. In this history is truly seen the growth of the mustard seed.
