Father Arul Lazar comes from a village called Purathakudi situated in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India born of his parents, Lazar and Selvam. He was born on April 14, 1981, as the fourth child in his family. He grew up in a devout Catholic family that has been a great source of inspiration and encouragement for him in his priestly formation. After tenth grade, he joined the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Francis De Sales and after 12 years he was ordained a priest on April 14, 2009. Father Arul then held ministries in India such as parochial vicar, director of an orphanage and the procurator of the Minor Seminary. Following his 9 years of ministries in India his Provincial Superior designated him to the United States for overseas ministry. After his arrival in the US he spent some time in Wayland and Watervliet for about two months undergoing the acclimatization and orientation program. He was then assigned to St. Joseph Parish as the Parochial vicar and Chaplain of the Lake Michigan Catholic School. There he served the people of St. Joseph for years before he was recently assigned as the Administrator of the Collaborative of Holy Maternity of Mary, in Dowagiac, Sacred Heart of Mary, in Silver Creek and Holy Family Church, in Decatur. Here at Holy Family Church and throughout the Collaborative, Father Arul is excited to be a part of the collaborative and looks forward to serving the Lord and the people's needs.
